I am Becca, a second-year student in the Master of Science in Occupational Therapy (MSOT) program at Salus! I am currently completing my first level two fieldwork rotation in the hand therapy department. I completed my undergraduate degree at Temple University, with a major in Recreational Therapy.
At my current rotation, we usually see about 15 patients per day. Throughout my day in the clinic, I administer evaluations and implement interventions according to the patient's individual plan of care. In addition to our scheduled appointments, we take walk-in splints from the physicians on site. I enjoy the fast-paced atmosphere at the clinic, it keeps me on my toes, and I am never bored! I have had the opportunity to work with many different orthopedic diagnoses here, including but not limited to: fractures, dupuytrens, arthritis, tendon repairs, and upper extremity (UE) amputations.
5:00 a.m.: My day starts bright and early because I leave around 6 to be at the clinic by 7. Coffee helps with this!
6:50 a.m.: Arrive at the clinic, review my charts for the day, and discuss the schedule with my supervisor.
7:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.: I have about six patients on my individual caseload. I am also currently taking (almost) all of our walk-in splints, and 1-2 new evaluations per day. I collaborate with my supervisor to treat the rest of our patients.
6:00 p.m.: Arrive home and have dinner or a snack. I always do all of my meal prepping on the weekend; it saves me a lot of time during my week.
7:00 - 8:00 p.m.: I like to schedule workout classes with my friends during the week. It is super important that we take care of our physical and mental health during our busy schedules! This is my favorite way to destress. If I am not doing that, I will use this time to rest, read, or watch TV.
8:00 - 10:00 p.m.: Shower, get ready for the next day, and do any homework, or reading to prepare for the next day. I am usually asleep by 10, so I can wake up well-rested the next day!
